Hello.
First I would like to thank George Dent Model Maker for giving me the inspiration to do this project after seeing the amazing things he has done on his blog and in Model Rail magazine.
This is my little project to make some Hornby Railroad MGR hoppers look a little more *Real*.
First thing I did was strip them down into 3 pieces, hopper, framing and chassis. Then the decals were removed with a glass fibre pen and primed with Halfords grey primer.
Once dry it was then hand painted with Humbrol Metalcote paints.
I did try hand painting the hopper frames with Railmatch rail red acrylic, but I don't like the finish, so I am going to rub them down and prime them again. I will be going to Halfords to see if they have a red in a spray can that is a match/near match for rail red.
